NAPLES

The saying goes "See Naples and Die" and until I visited the first true city of the south of italy I
believed the expression refered to the crime and danger that abounded in the city. I foolishly
related it to the thief and pick pocketing for which the city is infamous. Then one day my life
changed and I became one of the lucky ones to see Naples and I understood. I understood
that you can die having finally sensed with every sense a being possesses the most beautiful
city in the world. Don't worry of you leave a little of yourself behind, Goethe believed you
forfeited you heart to the city and many writers, including big men, like Ernest Hemingway,
did. This is a city full of contradictions calm and turbulence, sunny and dark and we are not
talking about the weather. It sits somewhere between legend and fact as it carries its 27
centuries on its weathered facade. It has lived life as a kingdom, as an important naval port.
Greeks believed the city dissolves all problems and walking around the city you can believe it
possible as you imbibe the intoxicating mixture of charm, seduction, splendour and decay
admiring its hidden gardens, the beautiful bay, its ancient monuments and churches but keep
an eye on your wallet. You can lose it quicker than your heart as you are blinded not only by
the beauty but by the crowds of children who distract in order to strike. The people and the
food is as old and fresh as simple and exotic as you are likely to find, again the contradictions
so finding your way to the pulsing heart of this city and feeding all of your senses is an easy
task.
